Universities, Schools and Colleges of San Francisco

Although it is relatively small in terms of geographic area, San Francisco offers plenty of educational choices and is home to several colleges and universities. The city also offers many attractions to the people who enjoy night life, dining out and recreational activities. The North Beach, the Mission District, the Marina and South of Market areas are the centers of nightlife. It is the financial epicenter of the U.S and houses the headquarters of several firms.

Private Universities/Colleges

1. University of San Francisco – The main campus is in the Fulton Street, San Francisco. USF is approximately 30 minutes north of San Francisco International Airport and is located in the city’s finest neighborhoods.

2. Golden Gate University – The Golden Gate University San Francisco campus is located in the heart of city’s financial district on Mission Street and is conveniently accessible by public transportation. They offer a wide array of courses.

Public Universities/Colleges

1. University of California - The main campus of University of California San Francisco is located in a neighborhood above Golden Gate Park which is known as Parnassus Heights. UC San Francisco is dedicated to advanced biomedical research, graduate level education in life sciences and health and patient care.

2. San Francisco State University – SF State University is located on the Holloway Avenue, San Francisco in a vibrant and beautiful neighborhood. The university enrolls a great number of international students as compared to any other university in the U.S.

3. City College of San Francisco – The City College is one of the nation’s largest public universities made up of ten campuses. It is a large, urban community college most preferred by the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

Technical/Professional Schools

1. The Art Institute of California – It is located at a public transportation center in the Civic Center near Market Street between Seventh and Eighth streets and connects all major public transportation systems. The institute is a leader in education in the fields of Design, Media, Arts and fashion.

2. California College of the Arts – The San Francisco campus is located in the Potrero Hill neighborhood and offers studies in areas of fine arts, architecture, design and writing.

3. California Culinary Academy – The Academy is situated at Rhode Island in the neighborhood of Potrero Hill. They excel in providing high standards of culinary arts, pastry and personal chef training.

4. San Francisco School of Digital Filmmaking – The School is located in the South of Market Area. It is just a little further from Market Street downtown the Financial District and Potrero Hill and is famous for combining art, music and technology.
